About Blake Lawson

Blake Lawson enjoys a life of active freelancing throughout the Southeast where he currently holds positions as the Principal Trombone with the Aiken Symphony Orchestra, the Adjunct Professor of Low Brass at Limestone University and Newberry College, and the Adjunct Professor of Trombone at Anderson University. Comfortable with all genres of music, Blake performs regularly with a wide variety of bands and ensembles. He has also performed as a substitute with the South Carolina and Brevard Philharmonics and the Asheville, Augusta, Beaufort, Charleston, Greenville, and Long Bay Symphony Orchestras. In addition to orchestra music, he has performed pop, rock, country, and jazz with the Electric City Big Band, Patrick Davis, Capitol City Big Band, Station Seven, Asheville Jazz Orchestra, and Left Bank Big Band.

In the past few years, Blake has been offered positions within the US Navy Fleet Band System and the King’s Brass. He has professionally recorded with the Salvation Army for their AIES music series, the Station Seven Band, and the UofSC Wind Ensemble. During the summer of 2021, Blake was a head brass instructor for the Kimball-Meeks Summer Conservatory and he continues to frequently serve as a guest clinician with many South Carolina middle and high schools while maintaining a successful private studio. Blake has performed at the American Trombone Workshop, Georgia Trombone Summit, and the Southeastern Trombone Symposium with various student ensembles and masterclasses.

 

Blake completed his Bachelor of Music degree in Trombone Performance from the University of South Carolina and his Master's of Music in Trombone Performance from the University of Georgia. While at Georgia he held a performance-based Graduate Assistantship with the Bulldog Brass Society Brass Quintet under the direction of Phil Smith. Mr. Lawson has studied with Dr. Josh Bynum, Dr. Michael Wilkinson, Steve Wilson, and Dr. Brad Edwards.


In his free time, Blake enjoys spending time with his wife Lizzy, cooking and baking, watching movies, and studying scripture.
